FAQs and common
misconceptions ...
1. Is a Doctor's Referral
needed to see a
Hypnotherapist ?
Yes & No - A referral is not always necessary.
On occasion it may help to
work with your Doctor
where it is felt the
problem can be best
overcome by a joint
effort.
Warning : If your under
the care of a Qualified
Health
care
Practitioner who has
prescribed medication
to you.
You Must continue
to take the medication
until it is deemed to
either reduce or stop
your medication By
your Practitioner Only .
2. Can it cure everything ?
No - Its not a "cure all"
and it doesn't always
work for everything
every single time.
However, it is
undoubtedly the single
most
powerful and under-utilised
resource in healthcare
and personal development
today.
3. Is it a magic power ?
No - Its a series of established psychological
techniques and language
structures.
There is nothing supernatural
or magic about it,
and the fear that people
have of hypnosis is simply
the fear of something unknown.
4. Can only weak-willed
people have this done to
them for their relevant issues ?
No -Almost everybody can
be put into trance.
Research has proven that
bright, intelligent and
outgoing people find it
easier to enter the
hypnotic state, whereas
people who suffer mental
illnesses, alcoholism and
drug dependency are
usually a little harder to be.
Circumstances, time,
willingness of the
subject and the
competence and techniques
used by the Clinician
are all variable factors.
5. Can people be made
to do things that go
against their will ?
No -Clinical experiments
have shown that a subject
will comply only with
suggestions that fit
their moral and value
systems. Of course,
people can be
directed to do things
that conflict with their
normal behaviors (which is
usually the case with
stage hypnotists using it
for entertainment purposes).
People can not, however,
be made to do anything
that conflicts with their
normal moral and ethical values.
In short, It cannot make
moral people behave
immorally.
6. Can a person/ client
enter a hypnotic state
and not wake up ?
No -Even in the most
unlikely event of the
hypnotist being
called away during a session,
the subject would simply
drift into normal sleep or
wake up immediately.
7. Is this dangerous ?
No -Hypnotherapy is a skill
of psychological communication
and only those specially
trained should ever be
allowed to hypnotize
anyone.
There has never been
a death recorded specifically
due to its practice.
8. Can it cause a person
to reveal secrets of themselves ?
No -This is a fear commonly
expressed by people who are
afraid that while in the trance
they will say something they
would normally not say.
Its not a truth drug, it is
as easy to tell lies in a trance
like state as it is in a normal
state.
While hypnotized you are
aware of what you are
doing and saying, and
will not do or say anything
that goes against your
inner principles.
Fear of hypnosis is
nothing more than fear
of the unknown.
